Marriage;Basis of the Family



Marriage is a social union or legal contract between people that creates kinship . It is institution an in which interpersonal relationships, usually intimate and sexual, are acknowledged in a variety of ways, depending on the culture or subculture in which it is found. Such a union, often formalized via a wedding ceremony, may also be called matrimony.Marriage is usually recognized by the state, a religious authority, or both. It is often viewed as a contract. Civil marriage is the legal concept of marriage as a governmental institution irrespective of religious affiliation, in accordance with marriage laws of the jurisdiction. If recognized by the state, by the religion(s) to which the parties belong or by society in general, the act of marriage changes the personal and social status of the individuals who enter into it.

The Legal Aspect of Marriage
The family code of the Philippines defines marriage as a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with the law for the establish of the family.

A theological reflection of the scriptural passages reveals three crucial thruths about the bonding of man and woman un marriage. These are:

  • that man and woman are equally persons
  • that god is the author of marriage and the one who gives its defining characteristic:and
  • that men and woman are person with body and soul. not merely spirit persons

Cause Problem in a Marriage

There are a variety of things that can cause problems in a marriage. Some of the biggest types of problems can include:

– Infidelity. Sexual betrayal by one or more of the spouses can destroy a marriage. In some religions, infidelity is the only problem for which divorce is specifically proscribed.

– Other sexual problems. Problems with impotence, differences in sexual desire or sex drive, or concerns about fertility can often strain a marriage.

– Financial problems. It is not only poor couples that argue about money; middle-class and even the affluent tend to have their fair share of arguments about money. These can range from simple discussions about what the priorities of a budget out to be, to situations in which one spouse is hiding money or spending from another spouse, to problems with credit card spending or other debt.

– Children. While children are one of the most amazing and enjoyable things that can come out of a marriage, they can also cause problems in a marriage. Parents will often disagree about how children should be raised. They might argue about grades in school or school activities.

– Religious or other differences in belief. While things like religious or political beliefs are often swept under the rug during the period of courtship and early marriage, they can often creep up and cause problems later on in a marriage.

– Other stressed. Changing jobs, building a new house, or moving to another place can place a great deal of strain on a marriage.

– Boredom. It is axiomatic that familiarity breeds contempt. Often, the passionate kisses that occurred during the courtship and newlywed period devolve into occasional pecks on the cheek after a while. In addition, the distractions of everyday life, and the demands of raising a family or running a household can make a relationship feel more like a business transaction than a great romance.

By being aware of the things that can cause problems in a marriage, a couple may be better equipped to recognize when those problems occur and to deal with them effectively.

The Family

"In the old days family meant people in a house together. But that was in a language so far back that all its words are gone, a language we can only imagine."

A family is a group of people who are important to each other and offer each other love and support, especially in times of crises. In order to be sensitive to the wide variety of life styles, living arrangements, and cultural variations that exist today, the family... can no longer be limited to just parent-child relationships... Family involvement must reach out to include: mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, grandparents, neighbors, and other persons who have important roles in the lives of people with disabilities.

Types of Family

1.Nuclear Family - consists of only father, mother, child/children living in one roof.

2.Extended Family
- a family that includes in one household near relatives in addition to a nuclear family ( grandparents).

3.Single Parent


4.Compound Type
- two Single Parent type of families together. There goes what we call step-father/mother and step-sisters/brothers.
